Thomas Rotherham College is the largest sixth form college provider in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. We have a tradition of achievement and aim to provide a future of opportunity to all our students.

Following the departure of an experienced colleague and the growth of politics, the Humanities faculty is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and skilled practitioner to its team of History and Politics specialists.

This is an exciting time for the faculty. In history, there are fresh challenges ahead and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to help shape the A Level History curriculum as we look to expand our offer.   Units currently are AQA: Unit 1C The Tudors: England 1485 to 1603 and Unit 2J America: A Nation Divided c1845 to 1877.  In the second year we’ll continue these units as well as a Personal Study Unit focused on Intolerance, in which students will look at Civil rights in America or Anti-Semitism in Europe. We are always keen to offer students a choice of routes so would be interested in other units that candidates could offer.

The Politics course has been relaunched in 2019 and there are currently two groups in lower sixth.  We are following the EDEXCEL course and have opted for the American option for the second year. Teaching Politics will be a key aspect of the role as the course expands with the first cohort moving into the second year.

History and Politics are taught in dedicated teaching rooms which are fully resourced with electronic whiteboards (SMART) in all rooms.  Integration of ICT into both curriculum delivery and as a vehicle to support independent learning is a current focus for development. The successful applicant will be joining a well-established, high performing team, who work collaboratively to build on current strengths and reach even higher levels of success.

The Humanities faculty incorporates History, Politics, Criminology, Sociology, Philosophy and Religious Studies and offers a range of courses including A-levels, a L3 Applied Certificate/ Diploma and a GCSE. The successful candidate will be student focussed and will contribute to the continuing development of high-quality provision across the Faculty.

The College is part of Inspire Trust which includes Oakwood High School and Sitwell Junior School, a truly community-based Trust.  As a Trust we are committed to developing a set of shared values through every aspect of our work. These values are the development of respect, responsibility, resourcefulness, resilience, reflection, risk taking and relationships.

All staff are required to work in a way that encourages a positive work environment that is solution focused and proactive for all.

We offer a positive working environment, we care about our students and we care about our staff, all of whom know that and appreciate that.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of this, contribute to this culture and develop it further.

Closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 14 February 2020 at 12 noon. Interviews will be held Monday 2 March 2020.  Applicants are required to apply via our online application form which is available on our website at https://www.inspiretrust.uk/thomas-rotherham-college-vacancies/
