Thomas Rotherham College is the largest sixth form college provider in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. We have a tradition of achievement and aim to provide a future of opportunity to all our students.

Sociology has continued to be a very popular and energetic subject area within the curriculum here at the College. In response to increasing student interest the department introduced WJEC Level 3 Applied Diploma in Criminology in September 2017. The course has proved to be highly popular and there are now 5 groups studying for the Certificate and 5 groups studying for the Diploma. With the growing popularity of the Criminology course, an opportunity has arisen to recruit an enthusiastic and high-quality teacher to the department, capable of teaching across the two subject areas. It is anticipated that the majority of this post will initially comprise of teaching on the Criminology course.

We offer AQA Sociology currently with optional units on family and media.  There are 3 groups in Year 12 and 2 groups in Year 13.  We are expecting these numbers to rise in 2020/21.

All classes are taught in well-resourced and dedicated teaching rooms with a dedicated computer access classroom for Criminology classes. There is also a dedicated faculty team office/workroom.

The work is varied and requires an individual approach to each student’s support needs in order to develop an individual learning plan that is applicable to the underpinning skills of their course.  The range of courses include, A-levels, AS levels and GCSEs. The successful candidate would become part of the Humanities Faculty that incorporates History, Politics, Criminology, Sociology, Philosophy and Religious Studies.

The successful candidate will be student focussed and will contribute to the continuing development of high-quality provision of the Faculty.
